There's been a few developments happening to the website lately. I'll start with the most exciting stuff and leave the tekko stuff to the end.
The first and most obvious one is the latest news section on the front page. Now you can read about whats going on behind the scenes and get more involved.
Work has continued towards members having their own Online Photo Gallery. Not only can you upload photos to the website, but you can show others your own Personal Photo Album. Actually, this has been available for a while but I mention it because some may not have been aware that we have this feature in fotoforfree.
If the Photo Gallery is old news then does that mean there have been more good improvements since then? There sure have. Having your own Gallery is one thing but what about having your own website address to give to people. Well, now you can. The address is simply your username.fotoforfree.com.au . So, as an example, if I wanted to show you my Personal Photo Gallery then that would be psignosis.fotoforfree.com.au . Whatever your username is, just put it in front and that should take your to your own section of the website.
So, does this mean you can have your own photo slideshow with animated transitions, personalised album or ability to sell photos online? Well, anythings possible in the near future. As the guy doing the work, I'm taking the days one at a time but its possible. We are always making changes to the website so who knows where we will be in the next six months.
You may have noticed that we've shuffled a few menu items around as well, particularly, with the introduction of a new menu item called Tutorials. What is Tutorials you may ask? For those that are interested, we have a series of photography tutorials that are currently in the pipeline. Members who sign in will have the ability to receive our regular newsletter which guides you through step-by-step exercises in taking great photographs. They take you from absolute beginner through some of the tricks and tips professional photographers use in the industry today. Tutorials are only as good as what you put into them so if you really want to learn to catch those amazing shots then I'd suggest you put the work in and dont just brush it off. We are only giving out one section per fortnight to give you time to think on each step. Hopefully, as you work your way through the tutorials, you will start to gain experience in the many techniques. Anybody can point and click but a good photo speaks a thousand words.
From time to time, I like to mention little oddities that people may not realise about the website as its the only chance I get to tell people these things. Did you know that when viewing a photo, you can click on the words in its description for more photos? No? Well... now you know. For instance, when viewing a photo of a pelican, the description could be something like, 'A bird commonly found at the beach'. If you click the word 'beach' then you will be shown a screen full of photos relating to the word 'beach'. Now, isnt that handy?
Another change rating a mention has been the big code cleanup. I've been meaning to get to this for some time so now I can happily say its a lot cleaner. What does this mean? Well, not only does this make it easier to grow the website at a later date but downloading pages should be a little bit faster. Im sure this will be welcome news to our dialup users out there. We've definitely been thinking of you ;p
